Lego Movie: Exam Q
Exam Q
To what extent
does Propp's character theory fit The Lego Movie poster
campaign (5).
The poster campaigns does and does not advertise each character as their suited Propp theory character types. For example, The poster of Emmet challenges the character type of 'hero' on the poster as his facial expression shows he is scared- this challenges the 'hero' stereotype as they are usually portrayed as brave and strong. On the other hand the character type set for Lord business is 'villain' - therefore in the poster he is conforming to the Propp theory character type due to his manic facial expression which is usually connoted with evil/danger.
Analyse how genre codes have been used in the Lego Movie poster campaign to appeal to a
family audience (10) - Refer to main poster & one character poster
The Lego Movie poster campaign appeals to a family audience as the main poster uses several recognisable character types which may invite different ages of audience (younger- fans of lego pieces, older- reminds them of childhood). The main poster includes several thing which can appeal to a family audience as it is eye catching and they may be interested in the action/sci-fi side of the film due to the events on the poster, for example, the flying police cars, knives etc which many men favour therefore they may want to watch the film the see new types of action. The main poster includes the names of the people who are playing the characters, and as these famous people have been in iconic films of the past for comedy, adventure etc this may attract the adults in the family as they know what the actors are like when they act therefore may want to see how they bring their spin on the film. The character posters are a mix of old and young characters therefore a family can relate to each character due to the wide age ranges for example, the youthful characters may be able to relate to younger children who are watching the film and the older characters may appeal to the older generation in the family. Another reason why the Lego Movie Poster campaign may appeal to a family audience is the way of escapism for if people like lego they will want to watch the film (adults may watch the film as they used to play lego)
